Love it or Fear it, rooms with color to inspire...

65' in Washington DC has me ready for the beach! Ok, so it's a little early, but I have already put away all the gloves and hats and brought out a few things to spring up the house. Although I am tied down to the infamous "everyone has one with kids my age and now our crazy dog Atticus " brown leather couch.... I am working out a new color color scheme for the whole main level. Now when I say color  I mean my new neutral Greige and a few pops of color!

These rooms help those that love color and those that (uh um) fear it, get excited about spring and all it's wonderful colors.  You don't need to change much just a little to mix in your own style!

Keep it simple and start with new pillows for spring!

It's not too late to start spring decorating. I know those of us on the East Coast are thinking
"what spring, there's still snow in my yard!" 

 However, retailers are selling out of some of the good stuff already and........It IS going to be 60' next week here in DC!

My babies are here

After just 2 weeks of labor, my babies are here! So happy with the way they turned out! Especially with my high fashion home pillows! I still have a few more accessories to throw in but layering is truly a process!

Grey and Pink Color Story

My Formal Living room ( aka Mommy's pretty room) is evolving into a reflection of my favorite styles, textures, and colors (right now). Since my children are finally about the age that I can start having pretty, fancy and a few fragile things around.

It started with a ton of trips to local furniture stores searching for the perfect gray velvet tufted sofa. I had set NO's in mind. NO single cushion, NO Pillow Backs, MUST have nailhead trim, MUST BE TUFTED AND VELVET! Well, I came home with non of that, but a beautiful light gray Bernhardt single cushion, 3 pillow back sofa, no velvet, no nailhead! But totally happy! I had a local upholsteror do the nailhead trim that I bought at JoAnns Fabric with a 40% off coupon. I would have done myself but the fabric on the sofa was so gorgeous I didnt want to take a chance on the first try.

So as the room evolves I'm putting together some inspiration to go along with it. Enjoy

Missing Miami

Almost a year ago I went to Miami for my friend Mandi’s (center) birthday. I loved every bit of design I saw in the hotels we visited. We stayed at The Shore Club, but walked in several other Miami Beauties such as The Delano and The Fontaine Bleau. Even when walking on Lincoln Road, I was more interested in going into home décor stores than all the fabulous clothing shops!

On my next trip I plan on hitting a few more hotels and sharing some of their gorgeous designs!

So after many weeks of scouring craigslist, thrift stores, and al, other places I finally found 2 large gorgeous (shaped) wing back chairs. I wanted a more modern shape, not to curvy on the top and definitely would around the arms. VOILA, $100 later and here they are..

I'm not quite upholstery talented as some of my other blogging friends, plus with the silk blend fabric I scored at Hancock Fabrics ( on sale 40% off, plus my 10% coupon). I didn't want to take a chance.

My wonderful upholsterer Hector from WH Interiors, stripped it for me but left all the side padding that was still in perfect condition. Brought them back home and got to sanding...I thought about using Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, but I wanted some of the bare wood color to show through, not the 1980's cherry. I mixed up some gloss white I already had, plus some dark grey from a sample mixed with about 50% water and got to brushing. I applied about 3 coats then gently sanded in so e of the raised areas where I was able to get to the bare wood and I couldn't be happier.

I can't wait to switch out the red chairs ( temporary seating from my basement and feels a little too Twighlight Series for me) for these beauties when there done!
